So, the other day, I went shopping and came home with an unexpected item: a (vegan) leather spiked vest. Yup. Me. The woman with three kids, approaching her 30’s…the woman who usually wears this: Continue reading

Within no time, the nurse arrived by my bedside and held my hand. With every contraction I felt extreme pain and fear – this was by far my most scariest moment in life!
Suddenly, out of no where, the nurse started humming in an effort to distract me from my pains, she even picked up a magazine from my bedside table and started reading it, “oh, would you look at this, this looks like a good recipe,” she said a couple of pages into the magazine. After she put down the magazine a minute later, I got another contraction; this time she told me to practice my breathing exercises I had learned in prenatal class. PRENATAL CLASS? WHAT prenatal class?? The one I was scheduled to have next week, but I couldn’t go to because I’m in the hospital HAVING A BABY??? Yup, THAT prenatal class. As soon as I told her I didn’t have a chance to attend my prenatal class, she taught me the breathing exercises, and we did them together until my husband and mom arrived shortly after. Mentally, I was trying to prepare myself for my second daughter’s first day of preschool. With my oldest daughter, Hafsah, the transition to preschool was a smooth one, for she had been to daycare since the age of two. Hafsah loved daycare so much, she even asked if I could take her to daycare on the weekends – when it was closed. So, for her, going to preschool was something she looked forward to, and therefore her first day was no big deal!
However, with my second child, Madina, things were different. Continue reading
I can’t believe summer is almost to an end here in Canada. I feel like it went by so fast, does anyone else feel the same way? Alhumdulillah it’s been a great summer thus far: it started with Ramadan, and then right after Ramadan there was my sister’s wedding, then an engagement I had to go to, followed by another wedding. By the way, I never did give you all an update on how the weddings went…As you know, I was quite nervous attending a wedding with three small children…and…well…let’s just says there were a few surprises! My children and I made these fruit plates a while back – We loved putting these together because they were not only yummy and fun to make, but we made them with LOVE.
Fruit plates are a great way to teach your children about a topic you want them to learn about! While my kids and I put together these plates, we discussed what ‘love’ means to them, and how we can express our love through actions of respect and through words of kindness.
You can make a fruit plate with your children by choosing any theme, such as peace, equality, human rights, etc….Not only is this an activity where your children will learn about a certain concept, but it’s also a great bonding experience!
Below are some pictures from my sister’s wedding; I still can’t believe she’s married! I remember those days of when she was a chubby baby, always wanting me to pick her up and carry her around the house! Masha’Allah, I’m proud to say that she is now carrying herself with such elegance and maturity! Witnessing her marriage was a sharp reminder that time goes by at an extremely fast pace: yesterday I was getting my own daughters ready for my sister’s wedding, and before I know it, the day will come when I will be getting my daughters ready for their own wedding, Insha’Allah! Cherish every minute, take note of every milestone, and take in those priceless moments with love! Continue reading
